The Warriors Are Warriors

There is a lot to admire from watching the run of the 2-time defending NBA Champions. They exemplify so much grit and determination in their attempt at winning the NBA title for the third consecutive year. The truth is the NBA season should be over. The Toronto Raptors should be NBA Champions by now.

The Golden State Warriors have been short-handed throughout the playoffs with the loss of arguably the best player in the league in Kevin Durant. The Warriors lost two home playoff games to fall behind 3 games to 1. Kevin Durant tried to play in game 5 in Toronto but re-injured himself and is now done for this season, and probably next season, with an apparent Achilles tendon tear. But somehow the Warriors rallied from 6 points down late in the game to find a way to win 106-105 with some clutch shooting and stellar defense.

What is so impressive is how the team maintained its composure after two calls went against them late in game 5. They had every excuse imaginable to accept defeat with the loss of a superstar and the calls that went against them. But this team does not believe in excuses. They rise above them.

How can one explain how the NBA Finals are heading to game 6?

Here are some reasons why:

  • Talent – The Warriors still have some very talented players led by Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.
  • Compete Level – The compete level of those two in particular, and of their teammates is at its highest level.
  • Grit – Grit is a combination of passion and perseverance. The Warriors have both.
  • Confidence – This group believes they can still win in spite of the odds against them.

The odds are still stacked against them winning the series and the NBA title in the end. But that does not deter the Golden State Warriors from being warriors in their belief, in their attempt, and in their collective will to win. The Golden State Warriors have shown the sports world how to perform like champions no matter how this ends.
